Since 1973

A steakhouse with stories

Bull Shed opened on Kauai’s east shore in 1973. For five decades it was the place for big portions, ocean views and an easy, welcoming feel. Today you’ll find Bull Shed on Banyan Drive in Hilo, and our Kauai home is getting ready to reopen.

Where it all began

Bull Shed started as a classic island steakhouse on Kauai’s east shore. Locals and visitors came for generous meals and an easygoing feel, and they kept coming back year after year.

From the start

Bull Shed opened in October 1973 near Waipouli Beach. It took its cues from ranch culture and hearty island cooking. Big portions, good steaks and fresh seafood set the tone. Simple, satisfying and made to share.

Then and now

Over the years, Bull Shed grew and refreshed its space and kept its spirit. Loyal regulars say it best. The food is consistent and the welcome is warm.
